Why celebrate here

It's your night, properly.

It's yours.

Whether it's a table for 8 or a section for 30, we'll set up your space so it feels like your night, not someone else's bar.

The cocktails are the entertainment.

Forget DJ booths and karaoke machines. Our drinks are handcrafted, seasonal, and designed to be shared. They're the centrepiece.

It's easy to organise.

Tell us how many people, pick a date, and we'll sort the rest. Reserved space, welcome drinks, and a team that knows how to look after a group without hovering.

Impressive without being over the top.

Hidden entrance, low-lit room, Soho address. The kind of place your friends will thank you for choosing.

From the journal: Intimate birthdays, done properly →

December birthday? The basement doubles as a Christmas party venue in Soho, and those dates go early.

A party venue, not a club night.

Most birthday venue searches in London end in one of two places: a club with a queue and a cloakroom charge, or a corner of a pub that was never really yours. This is the third option. A hidden basement bar where the space is reserved under your name, the drinks come to the table, and the music sits at a level people can talk over.

Bar hire for a birthday works two ways here. A reserved section of the bar takes twenty to forty guests, with a welcome drink each and a host who knows whose night it is. Full private hire gives you the whole basement, 110 standing or 50 seated, with the bar team to yourselves. Under sixteen? Skip the enquiry and just book a table.

Getting everyone to turn up is the easy part: three minutes' walk from Oxford Circus, five from Tottenham Court Road, seven from Piccadilly Circus. Look for the red door on Broadwick Street.

Good to know

Birthdays here, answered.

How do I book a birthday at Basement Sate?

Up to fifteen people, book a table online, with no minimum spend. For bigger groups, a reserved space takes a short enquiry. Birthday packages start from £20 per person for twenty guests or more.

How much does a birthday party venue in Soho cost?

Tables of up to fifteen are free to reserve, you just pay for what you drink. The Soho Social package is from £20 per person for twenty or more, with a welcome drink and a dedicated host. Some groups add a cocktail masterclass at £50 a head instead of a sit-down dinner. Full venue hire starts from £2,000 for up to 110 guests.

Can you take a birthday party of 20, 30 or 50 people?

Yes. Twenty to forty guests fit a reserved section of the bar. Past fifty, the whole basement is yours, 110 standing or 50 seated.

Do you do anything for the birthday person?

Tell us when you book. A cocktail named after them, the lights nudged warmer, a small surprise on arrival. If you have an idea, we will usually find a way to do it.

How late can a birthday party run?

Until 1:30am Tuesday to Saturday, and until midnight on Sunday and Monday. A December birthday shares the room with Christmas parties, and those dates get promised about six weeks out, so book early.

Where is the venue?

8 Broadwick Street, Soho, W1F 8HN, downstairs behind the red door. Three minutes' walk from Oxford Circus, five from Tottenham Court Road, seven from Piccadilly Circus.
